RE PROTOSED CRANMORE MUNICIPALITY.
To the Editor.
Sm,—l wist to call public attention. td the fact that his Honor the,S«periatendent has. oh two occasions, jubdoly said that he was very much in favor of municipalities. What politioalobjctthey may, iuhis Honors opinion, be able to serve I do no- know ; but this Fdo know, that his Honor and bis Executive have to administer certain laws or Ordinances for the benefitof the community, and his Honor has no right to lean < ither-to the one side or the other, but to. administer tho e laws as ha 11cds them. :
We do not object, to the Maori Hill people getting a municipality, but we most decidedly and strongly object to “ be tiken in and done f< r” ourselves. We know that the Bead Boards do their work far more economical y than man dualities can ; also that und -r the Abolition Act municipalities will only get a subsidy of LI for LI on tbe’r rat:s, while Hoad Boards willgeit L2 for every LI collected in rates. *H s Honor on one occasion s.id the promoters of this municipality expected to get larger powe s, buf he ni l not think they would get much larger powers under the Municipal Gorroratio. s Ordinance than are now possessed under the Road Boar s Ordinance, Again I ask what object have the Government to ; erve by multiplying municipalities ? —I am, &o. t C. Davies. Halfway Bush, March 2.
