VOLUNTEER INTELLIGENCE.
The monjthly inspection of th' 9 North Dunedin, Rifles took place at the ater of Leith drill-shed last evening. The.compahy,a$ usualy mustered strongly under command of Captain. Reeves, and -were inspected by Lieut Douglas, abting-adjutant, after whibh Captain Reeves 'and Instructor Harrison gave : them some company and batta* Hon drills which was done in a highly satisfactory manner. Captain Reeves then presented those of the team who had beaten their opponents in the late competition with No. 1 .Company (the men having beenpitted against each other), with a gold. pencu case each, and complimented them on their Shooting and haying proved themselves to be the crick-shooting team in the Province. He also mentioned that he had presented the company with five silver cups to he shot for under new regulations, &c:,'which he would shortly bring before the committee, the idea being to give the inferior shots the same chance as the team men in a series of matches, sides to be drawn by lot. The shooting for Messrs Kohn and Co.’s prize was indefinately postponed in consequence of scarcity of ammunition.
