VOLUNTEER INTELLIGENCE.

CADET COMPETITION.

The return match between the City Guards and High School Cadets was fired at Anderson’s Bay this morning. The ranges were 100 and 200 yards; five shots at each. The first match was won by the Guards, but on this occasion the High School boys have proved victorious, so that a third match will have to be fired. Subjoined are the scores:

CADETS BALL. The City Guards Cadet Fife and Dnun Band celebrated their firstanhiversaryby a ' ball in the Head-quarters Drill-shed last evening. There were about fifty couples present, and amongst the visitors were Capt. Wales, No 1 company, and Capt. tttayely, i D.N.R A feature of the evening was the presentation to bandmaster M ‘Nair oi a handsome gold pencil-case, which bore tfne follow- , ing inscription—" Presented by th e Band to Mr McNair as a token of .esteem, Tebrhary ■ 26, 1875.” The dancing music was supplied ' by Johnson’s band,consisting of a pianoforte, violin, and piccolo.
