PORT CHALMERS TOWN COUNCIL.
The usual fortnightly meeting of the above Council was held last evening, when there were present the Mayor. CrsM'Kinlay, Keid, Asher, Menelans, Middleditch and Miller. The following’ correspondence was read:— From Mr J. Canning, asking permission to erect boards on the town sections for I ill-post-ing, and asking if the Corporation grant' d bellmens licenses to all applicants or restricted that privilege to a given number of pers ns. resolved that permission bo granted to Mr Canning to erect boards on the town sections, and that no. further, licenses granted for beU-ringiog until an application comes , before the Council.—From Mr Peterson, for permission to remove a few loads of earth from opposite his sec.ion. (Granted, subject to the usual conditions.) —Mr J. B. Taylor’s application was also granted to cross th*Jootpath with horse and dray opposite section 42, Seor.e street. From the Inspector of Works, informing the Council that he had inspected the road metal broken by Messrs Stackley and Crawford at the quarry, and found that the metal was not broken to the guage specified in them contract. The following report from the Finance Committee was read and adopted :—“ In reference to the lett-r from the manager of the National Bank, the Committee recommended that his Worship the Mayor and Cr Asher wait upon the manager and make the necessary arrangements in the matter, similar to what has been done in Dunedin. As to the manager’s letter re Mr Smith’s cider having been dbhonored they have reason to understand that Mr Joyce win get the matter attended to. As to Messrs Joyce and Adams’s, letter wishing an advance of LIOO on account of their bill, the committee has had *he full bill of costs rendered, but the members not had sufficient time to go minu'ely into the details of the account, but recomm- n'l that the advance of LlOObenow made to Mr Joyce.” The Matoe called the* attention of Ooun whia; wy relerreVlofee to repovt upon, x After sundry accounts were passed for payment. the Council went into committee to consider communications from Messrs Jovoe and Adams.
