AN HONEST POLITICIAN.
The Hon, J. S. Farnall, a New South Wales politician of sixteen years’ standing, and for a considerable time Minister of Lauds, was on the January 22, on the eve of his departure for England, banquetted in Sydney in recognition of long public services and presented with an address and testimonial, the presentation consisting of 1,800 sovereigns. In making the presentation, the Hon. T. Holt said the testimonial had been raised by contributions from all classes in the community, and in subscriptions from Is upwards. A better proof of Mr FamelTs strict impartiality could not be found than this—that the conditional purchasers and the squatters had alike contributed, and all classes of persons as well. Only the previous evening he had received a cheque from a gentleman who had not an inch of land in the Colony, and was not likely to have. It was out of personal respect to Mr FarnelJ. A handsome silver tea service was presented to Mrs Farnell on the same occasion.
