METEOROLOGICAL.
From the official meteorological report for January it appears that the mean height of the barometer at the Dunedm Observatory was 29.853xn.; the highest raiding being 30.168 on the 30th, and the lowest 29.303 on the 11th, The mean temperature of the air was 66.8, tbe • greatest heat in the shade being 72-OH the 23rd, the greatest cold 40 on the 15th. The total range of temperature in the shade was. therefore 32, the mean daily range being i?'T “a* l ™ l ™ solar radiation was 150 on the 25th, the minimum terrestrial radiation 30 on the 15th, The extreme range between the reading of the exposed thermometers was, therefore, 85. The total rainfall was 1,214i!n. It fell on nine days, the maximum rainfall in any twenty-four hours being ,504 in on the 7th. Tbe mean diurnal horizontal movement of the af.T was 157 miles ; the greatest velocity for one day being 435 miles.
