The Union Co.’s p.s. Samson sailed this morning with cargo and passengers for Oamaru. The brigantine Kate Brain having received a new false keel was taken off Isbister’s slip yesterdav ' and sailed up to Dunedin. J The brig Emma will complete her loading this evening for Melbourne, the remainder of her cargo being conveyed, alongside this morning by the lighter Anna Houla’i, from Dunedin. The ship Calypso is rapidly filling Up, and com menced to bend sails this morning, in readiness for her departure for London, The Union Co.’s s.s. Taupe, with cargo and passengers for- Northern Ports, took her departure this afternoon from the railway pier. The ships Oxford and Olive commenced to dis•barge their cargoes into lighters yesterday for transhipment to Dunedin, J The tug Geelong was taken into Murray ’s floating deck yesterday to be cleaned and repainted. The ship Nelson was removed from the' head of theGravmg Dock to the new pier this morning The barque American Lloyds, which has been chartered to follow the barque Anna Dorathea. with Chmeae passengers to Kong Kong, arrived in ballast from Lyttelton this morning and sailed up to her anchorage off Carey Bay with a light N.e! wind. She left Lyttelton at 2 p.m. on Saturday Messrs Blackwood, and Co.’s s.s. Arawata arrived this afternoon from Melbourne vm West Coast ports with cargo and passengers. SHe left Port Phillip at 6 p.m. on the 3rd instant, passed the Sisters at 9 a.m. on the 4th, and arrived at Hokitika at 4 p.m. on tho Bth; called at Grey mouth, NMson, WeUington, and Lyttekon; We thauk Mr Mil lex 1 for report aud exchanges* Messrs M’Meckan, Blackwood, and Go’s ss Riugarooma, with thirty-six passengers aud 130 tons of cargo, armed alongside tho railway pier at ? t® 3o morning from Melbourne via the Bluff. She left Melbourne at S p.m. on tho 9th, passed Swan Island the following day, had strongS. andSW winds across, and.passed tho Solanders at 8 p.m! on the 13th; arrived at the Bluff at midnight- discharged cargo and left again, for Port Chalmers at 5.30 p.m, on the 14th, and arrived as above. We thank her purser (Mr Jago) for report and Melbourne exchanges. A most remarkable incident occurred on the pasMge of the Sea Gull from Dunedin to the Bluff : last week. Captain Veal states that when the vessel was about three miles off the Brothers. ■ along with a light E.N.E; wind, the barometer very low, and the sky lowering and presenting a very threatening aspect, all at once, at about 6 a.m., a vivid flash of lightning illuminated the vessel, and was accompanied imme- ; dlately by loud peal of '•thunder, that lasted for some seconds, and seemed to break right alougide flie vessel.
