The correspondent of a contemporary after enumerating a number of difficulties in which the Province of Hawkes Bay is involved, adds that the General Government has charged interest on the uncompleted works in the Forty-Mile Bush, against which the Superintendent, Mr Ormond, has remonstrated. " We are authorised to state that this is incorrect- no such charge having been made. The Act provides that when any portion of a railway is finished and open for traffic, the Colonial Treasurer shall cause an account to be prepared, and the Province shall be debited at the rate of 5 per cent, per annum on the cost from the Ist July next after the same has been opened for traffic. As no such opening has taken place the absurdity of the telegram needs no comment.
