VOLUNTEER INTELLIGENCE.

The following infantry representatives, who qualified, have intimated to the MiKtm Office their intention of proceeding to Wanganui by paying their own expenses :—Oapt. The following are the names and scores of. the nine carbine representatives who are to compete at the approaching Colonial rifle meeting Ford, Christchurch, 183; Kingswell, Invercargill, 181; Mason, Wellington, 180; Bannister, Wellington, 176; Banibal, Waiuku, 174; Buchanan, Invercargill, 172; Selby, Waikato, 170; M'Credie, Wellington, 170 ; and Henderson, Marton, 168. The Dunedin Artillery’s parade last night was attended by forty-four rank and sue, funder the command of Lieutenant hfituir. Considerable discussion and feeling were evoked at the announcement that the Company’s representatives (Lient. Muir and Gunners Fordyce and Smith) who had qualified for the Colonial prize-firing had been disqualified by the Defence Office from competing at the Colonial prize-firing, and much dissatisfaction was expressed. It was eventually resolved that, the officer commanding the Company be requested to draw up a petition to the Defence Minister praying for a reconsideration of the matter, to be signed by all the members of the Battery on Monday next. carbine match. The first of a series of carbine matches between our local and the other Artillery companies throughout the Colony was fired this morning at the Anderson’s Bay Range, against the Invercargill Battery. The conditions were—seven shots at ranges of 200, 300, and 400 yards, any position ; third class targets at 200 yards ; and second class at the other ranges ; ten men a-side. The weather was good, though cold, with a dull light, and a gale from the right did not add to the chances of good scoring. The result is in favor of the Invercargill Corps by a majority of six points. The following are the scores :
