ANOTHER MUNICIPALITY.
There was a numerously-attended meeting in Roslyn Hall last night, to consider the advisability of petitioning for a municipality for that district. Mr AJ. Bums presided. Mr A. O. Bego, as Chairman of the Bead Board, explained that the movement for a municipality originated with the residents of Maori Hill who, thinking that they had not been fairlv treated by the Waikari Road Board, wished to be separated fiom it. There were some advantages—but they were slight- in Roslyn being erected into a municipality, but the residents should oppoa® the district being spl't up into infinitesimally small sections. Mr A. H. Jack moved—
That to prevent the 'annexation fry ti.'-© proposed municipality of Maori Hill of portion# of the Eoalyn road district, such portions being at toiv a distance from the centre of the municipality'* that a petition he prepared and presented to nia Honor the Superintendent, asking him to propose BOsljn and adjacent township into a municipality." The resolution was opposed by Mr 3L H. Hay, who thought it would be preferable to join Dunedin; by Mr Wales, who saw nothing to be gained from a separate nmnicipality; by Mr LIVINGSTON, and was supported by Mr Tewblet, who, while tot convinced of the desirability of a municipality, considered they were forced into applying for one. Aft, r a lengthened discussion,' which assumed a somewhat personal turn, Mr Wales moved the following amendment, which was carried by 21 to 16*:
That the proposal to create Eoslyn Bead Board district into a Municipality Ijp postponed, and that the meeting request the Eoslyn Boad Board to take steps to prevent the severance of the district by the proposed Maori Hill Municipality.
