Witness replied, “ I don’t know you at all, you are a stranger to me”; whereupon accused peristed in accusing him of calling him a loafer,' End : abusive language and challenged witness to fight.—Accused said that it having been vpported to him that prosecutor had called him a loafer, he went to the latter’s house to remonstrate with him.—The Bench thought Hocused might be somewhat wroth at being spoken of in each terms, and dismissed him with a caution.
Embezzlement.— Ebenezer Pulton Corley was charged with receiving, on December 1, a cheque for L 23 13s, the property of Mb employers, Messrs Davidson and Co , ana with embezzling the same. —Inspector Mallard askei for a remand till Wednesday, an-.' cased having only arrived from Invercargill I«st evening.—Mr.Lewis, who defended, offered no objection to the application; but asked, that accused might be admitted to bail—The charge was adjourned till Wednesday, accused being admitted to bail-hims«lf in L6O, End two sureties of L 26 each.—[Mr‘Driver, J.P., attended at the g«?l this afternoon and admitted Corley to bail on the amounts. fixed by the Justices who presided at the Police Court this morning.]
