From all parts pf the Oamaru district the ‘Times’ receives very gratifying proof of the successful .acclimatisation of game and other birds. A farmer, residing, in tjie Totara district, close to the Flat Top Hill, informs it that hares are frequently met with, and that partridges .and pheasants are also multiplying. Two coveys of the former, numbering ten each, were flushed oh the same: property a day or; two scarcely a field, can be crossed without starting a hare. The song of the skylark is also frequently heard, and the .starlings are to be' found in large flocks. .Last week, a flock of from 400 to 500 of them were noticed to be exceedingly busy for a whole day in a field where the caterpillar had appeared, and| subsequently, when the birds left, it was found that the caterpillars bad gone also. A better proof of the value of the efforts of our acclimatisers could not be desired.
