FLOODS AND LOSS OF LIFE.
J'Japiek, January 21. A melancholy and fatal accident o curred at Waitangi this afternoon. Two girls, Farar and Barry, about fourteen years old, were standing on the banks of the Ngaruro, then in hood, when the bank gave way and both girls were drowned. The bodies were washed out to sea, the current being too strong to render assistance. The rain is abating and the rivers goingdown, but not before serious dann-gc has been done. The bridges at Oamahu, I’aki Paki, and on tho old Taradale road are carried away, and the railway bridge at Waitangi is shaky."From Ngaranvoro at Clive there is a cut through the railway for several chains. Thousands of acres were under water, and traffic is stopped southward of Tiiorndon.

Queenstown, January 24. Till - James William Robertson. formerly M.l’.C. for the district, died at. seven o'clock hi -t night. Ji.' was about up to Friday night. The cauT-e o" dvath was debility. His death caused a front shock, ami his loss will he deeply felt throughout the entire district, for he was an extremely liberal man in Business matters.
