NORMAL SCHOOL.
The Normal School was opened to-day. Over 200 children were enrolled, principally in the higher classes, there being comparatively few in the infant room and two higher standards. The head of the practising school is Mr Montgomery, of the Albany street School, who has under him Mr Lindsay, of the South School; Mr Murray, of the Tokomairiro Grammar School; * Miss Fitzgerald, of the Oamaru Grammar School; Mias Stevens, of the Middle District School; and Miss Huie, lately from the Glasgow Training College, havingspecial training fonnfantschoolwork. Mr Fitzgerald, of the Oamaru Grammar School, has charge of t e whole school. An examination will be held in the upper classes to-morrow to determine the classification. The training department will not commence work till t e middle of February. An (xamination of candidates for adm ssion to the training department who have not passed the pupil teacher’s exa • {nation, will be held in the course of a few days, due notice of which will be given. Work will be btgun in earnest tomorrow.
