RESIDENT MAGISTRATE’S COURT, PORT CHALMERS.
Tuesday, 18xh January. (Before T. A. Mansfoid, Esq., R.M.) Drunkenness. —Donald •‘■■weeney was fined 10s or forty-eight hours’ imprisonment for this offence; William Jackson, on bail, was ordered to be locked up until he became sober. Keeping a Disorderly House.— Patrick Kennedy, well-known < o the police, was charged, on the information of Constable Coffey, with being the proprietor of a disorderly house. The prisoner, in defence, stated he had quitted the premises, and the case was adjourned for one week. Insulting Language. —William Stevens, a diminutive man, was charged by Thomas Pointon with using language calculated to provoke a breach of the peace. The magistrate, considering the relative size of the parties, dismi sed the information, with costs. CIVIL CASES. W. Stevens v T t ointon.—Claim. LI 4s for three days’ work at 8s per day. Mr Adams, for defendant, admitted two days at 7s per day and the Court awarded the plaintiff Li la and costs. [Left sitting.]
