ST. MATTHEW’S CHURCH.
The annual meeting of St. Matthew’s congregation was held last evening; Mr H. Houghton in tbe chair. The annual report stated that the total revenue from subscriptions, offertories, and other sources, amounted to L 1,437 7s 6d, which must be considered very satisfactory for the first year. The total cost of erecting and furnishing the church was L 5,815 13s sd, of which amount L 4.860 0s 8d still remains as an outstanding debt. Just before the dose of the year the Vestry came to the conclusion it was desirable _ o vigorous canvass should be made for subscriptions. Accordingly a start was made, and though uot much has yet been done, still the efforts made have been liberally responded to, and have resulted iu subscriptions to the amount of L 585 I6s 6d being promised, payable over a, term of years. There is but little doubt that most satisfactory results will accrue fr'm this canvass if continued energetically. During the past y«ar nevotbdions have been on foot for procuring an organ for the Church, aud though the Vestry cannot report any'hing definite On the subject, they hope something may be finally settled as to same before many months, and a firstclass instrument procured. The bazaar in aid of the funds of the Clmrch left a most satifactory balance, and the Vestry deem this a fitting opportunity to express their best thanks to those who kindly assisted in that movement, and also to those who have contributed and promised liberal subscriptions towards the funds of the Church. The Vestry earnestly appeal to the members of the congregation to make such efforts in the future, both in the way of collecting subscriptions and in subscribing liberally to the offertories, that at the end of the present year a greatly mere, sed revenue may bo showu.
T he report and balance sheet were adopted. Resolutions were agreed to, the object of which was to keep the building fund and current ex enses s» parat - and distinct in future. Ti.-is could not be done previously. The following gentlemen we.o elected to constitute the vestry Messrs H. 8. Fish, S'. Prosser, G. F.Reid, H. Hough'on, .1 Rattray (treasurer), IV. U, Meares (Seoretaiy), William Watson, Austin, A. Bathgate, West, Ando: son. and Mavsden, Mr K. Haworth was re elected churchwarden, and Mr Blyth, auditor.
Votes of thanks were passed to Messrs Pross r and Blyth for their pa-t exertions, and to the lad.es wh ■ got up the bazaar.
