SERIOUS ACCIDENT AT PORT CHALMERS.

A serious accident occurred this morning on board tire ship Jessie Headman, lyifig at the new pier, to one of the crew (a Swede) named Lawson, whose right leg was crushed below the knee. It appears that the crew were engaged hoisting out the cylinder of the wool press, which weighs about 2ocwt, . when the gin chain broke, and the cylinder swung out by the yard-arm tackle striking Lawson, .who was standing a little in advance of it on the deck, on the leg. He war, immediately carried on ® hatch to the railway waiting room, and there attended by Drs Stenhouae and Drysdalo, who rendered him every assistance in their power. He was conveyed to the Dunedin Hospital by the eleven o’clock train.
