RECOVERING THE CABLE.
The Luna was employed all Sunday dragging for the cable, but unsuccessfully! The weather was beautifully fine. She anchored at night in Otiringc Bay, and started again at six on Monday morning, the weather being again fine with a smooth sea. At 9.30 she hooked the cable, but when it was about twelve feet from the surface the shackle of the grapnell carried away, and the out chain and the cable all went to the bottom. Bearings were taken and from the latest intelligence operations were being recommenced, Soundings as yet average 90 to 100 fathoms. The bottom-is generally fine gravel and shells with occasional rocks.
