CITY POLICE COURT.

Tuesday, January 10, (Before V. Pyke, Esq., J.P., and C. W. Bt-eet, Esq., J.P.) Drunkenness. James Kennedy, John Yates, James Williams alias Doneman, were each fined ss, or twenty-four hour*’ imprisonment ; Williams was also fined 10s, or three days’ imprisonment; David Constant was also fined 10*, or three days’ imprisonment; Jas. Wilkins was fined 20s, or three days’ imprisonment; James Miskelley, George Murdoch, and Anne Macnamara were each fined 40s, or fourteen days’ hard labor. Wanted to be Locked up.— Henry Clark was charged with stealing a bag, valued at Is fid, belonging to N. Hart, Arcade. It transpired that prisoner took the article in order to get locked up. He was sent to gaol for three days. Vagaanct.—George Newland was charged with being illeg.u'y on the premises of Mrs Bennett, in Oauford street, at 2 30 this morniug. His excuse was that he was “ tight.” He was sentenced to three days’ imprisonment. A very Old Offender,— Mary M‘Donald was charged with being drunk, with having no lawful visible means of support, and with stealing some wearing apparel. The first she admitted, and to the second she made answer that a publican in George street had provided her with means ever since she had been in the country.—Mr Pyke : What do you do for it ? Prisoner : Nothing. He gives it to me to keep me from doing anything else.—(Kenewed laughter.)— The evidence in support of the chai’ge of theft was given by vra Renton, of Hanover street, who deposed that on the night of 1 hursday some articles of wearing apparel were stolen from her clothes line; and the pair of child’s drawers produced, which were worn by the prisoner when arrested, she identified as hers. — For drunkenness the prisoner was fined 40s, or fourteen days’ hard labor; for vagrancy she was sentenced to an additional month’s imprisonment; and for theft to a further term of imprisonment for a month. Alleged Wipe Desertion.— Meldrum v. Meldrum was called and adjourned till tomorrow.
