Auckland, January 7. Margaret Wall, the Thames murderess, who killed two cbildnn with an axe, was found not guilty, owing to insanity. Sho is ordered to be iroprisonmed during the Queen’s pleasure. Richard Moore, charged with murder during an affray in a house in Shortland street, was acquitted. Chbistchuech, January 7. A testimonial has been awarded to Joseph Day by the Royal Humane Society for saving the life of the boy Morton when a boat capsized at Sumner last year, and three men were drowned. It was presented to Mr Day by the Superintendent this afternoon. The Buperin tendent spoke warmly of the courage shown by Day in saving Morton’s life. It is understood that Sir Julius Vogel will ntt return at once to New Zealand after his arrival at Melbourne, but that he will go to Sydney to confer with the Government there as to the action to he taken by the two Colonies re the San Francisco mail and other matters.
