THEY HAVE THEIR REWARD.

To the Editor, Slß,—Some few days ago, I'observed from a correspondent's letter in your paper, that no sooner had the Central League succeeded in securing the ret.m n of its three candidates to represent Dunedin in the General Assembly than our immaculate Executive Council, including Mr jreen, now a candidate for the Port 1 maimers district, appointed the Secretary to the league, Mr Farnie, to a situation in the Normal School, and rhat in his capacity as Provincial Government oHicer, he (Mr Farnie) had been actively engaged in canvassing for Mr Green at Port Chalmers.

I now hear it reported that Messrs Ed 1 and Brett, the proprietors of the proposed opposition evening paper, have been appointed publishers of the ‘ Provincial Government Gazette,’ thus superseding—and as tar as I can learn, without rhyme or reason—the late publishers (Messrs Coulls and Culling). Now, I would like to know whether it is not the duty of the Press to expose such jobbery, and protest against such corruption ? I can partly excuse you, sir, seeing that out of delicacy you may hesitate to find fault with your proposed evening opponent; but there can be no such excuse on the p irt of either the ‘ Daily Times ’ or ‘Guardian,’ and I trust that these—the supposed exponents of public opinion—will investigate these allegations, and lay the result before their readers in their true colors.—l am., etc,, T , T Querist. Dunedin, January 4.
