HUTCHESON'S EXPLORING PARTY.
Mr David Hutcheson, the leader of the party sent out by the Governments of Otago and Canterbury, to survey and form the road to the West Coast, returned to Dunedin on Monday night, the work having been suspended for the present. The past twelve months have been occupied in foi*ming the road from the head of Lake. Wanaka to Burke River, nearly halfway to the West Coast. The work has been greatly impeded by excessively rainy weather, flooding the rivers and preventing supplies being brought forward. But for this, tho whole distance would have been completed.
