HE DUNEDIN ANNUAL BEGATTA. The first annual regatta was held to-day, ' tinder rather uaauspicious surroundings. The weather was too boisterous for perfet success, as a stiff nor-eoster was blowing right up the bay, creating a small sea. Considerable delay ensued through something going wrong with the umpire's boat, and the hrst race did not stai-t till twolve instead of eleven o'clock. For some reason no gun was fined, to announce the starts and finishes of the races, which was a great inconvenience. The following are the results, a fuller account of which will appear in our issue to-morrow: — Orfis: Sailing Race.—To Macandrew's Bay and back. Entrance, 10s. Prize, LI \ Ma"k Webb's Goldseeker 1 W. Mr T. Bower's " Templeton" 3 Pt Chalmer's Rowing Club's " Pioneer " 4 Four started, and a fine race ensued. Won by half alength. Time, 16mins. 30scs. Amateur 4-oared Tnbigged Gia Race. Two milas. trar.ee, 5a an oar. Prizes, L 25; second. LlO. Union Club's Union 1 Excelsior Club's Excelsior 2 Six started. A protest was entered on the ground that the first four boats went over the wrong course. The Isis came in first on the other course. THE LYTTELTON RTXi VTT.\ was a complete success. Eight thousand people were present. The champion fouroared whaleboat race was won by the Ringarooma, of Lyttelton, the Freewill (Lyttelton) being second, and Timaru third. The champion sailing race, for the New Zealand Shipping Company's Cup and LIOO added, was won easily by the Franklyn Belle, of Dunedin, with XXX (Lyttelton), 2. The yacht race for Shaw, Saville, and Co's Cup, with LoO added, was won by the Spray (of Dunedin), with the Annie Ogle (Lyttelton) second. The champion pair-oared race was Won by Timaru, with L} T ttelton second.
