Wellington, December 20. This afternoon a quantity of Cook Straits cable, which has been coiled away under the telegraph office, was taken on board the Luna. It will all be taken on board to-morrowj and a start will be made on Thursday.

The steamer Hawea did not return from her excursion trip to Nelson this morning, causing much gnashing of teeth in the office,*, as many of the officials had gone in her for the trip. Clyde, December 29. A fire broke out in Parkea’ Hartley Arms Stables, Clyde, which were comp’etely de stroyed. Three horses, the property of Mr Parkes, were burned. He estimates his loss at 1-200, and was uninsured. The cause of the fire is supposed to have been accidental. An inquest will be held.
