A QUERY.
To the Editor. Sir, —Is the Mr Farnie who has been appointed to a situation in the Normal School by the Provincial Government the gentleman who so recently acted, aud is, I believe, now acting, as secretary to the Central League? If so, truly the reward has followed quickly upon the service, and Mr Macanclrew and his colleagues cannot be accused of tardy recognition of political services. But if Mr Farnie is a Government officer, how comes it that he was at Port Chalmers yesterday actively canvassing for Mr Green? The valiant Barnes was there also as a member of the league, assisting to the uttermost the cause of the Provincial party. Surely, sir, it is time this should bo put a stop to. It is, I fear, too much to expect that the Superin tendent or his Executive will stay the hand of the employes under their control; but I trust that his Worship the Mayor has sufficient apprec ati-ui of the proprieties to stop Mr Barnes’s pranks, or else bring his conduct before the Council with a view to his dismissal. —I am, &c., Citizen. Dunedin, December 28.
