For the AVahau Mr Seymour, Suverintendent of Mai thorough, is opposed by Air Henderson (Frovincialist). At the nomination for Napier the show of hands was in favor of Sir Donal AFLean and Mr Colenso. The numbers were—M'Lean, 79; Colenso, 50; Stuart. 43; Russell, W. R., 40 ; Ferars, 11. Mr Buchanan withdrew from the contest. Our Queenstown correspondent telegraphs : '1 he result of the poll and the strength of the Provincial vote in Dunedin excited surprise here, but it will have no effect upon the contest for this seat. Mr Brown’s speech was a repetition of that in ‘ ilnimaul,’ and owing to the bad aceoustic proporfi'w of lh) hall, the speaker could only be heard in front. At the conclusion of his address a number of questions Were put. The candidate said lie would vote for rim repeal of the 'Abolition Act piovide * Ik could not obtain insular separation, and that ha would vote for free mid compulsory unseclnrian education, -ome questions wi re answered in aveiybazy manner, or rather w,: ■ e feno- d. O. I’imes’) have no doubt he will he returned. As his vi-nvs have n -t as yet been made known, many cf those who signed the requditiou made it clearly understood that their vote-! would only be given to Mr'Reid in the event of his political platform meeting their approval. Another requisition to Mr AFLean was also numerously signed. Rumor (joints to two or three towimieu as also likely to c.nne forward.
