MR M’DERMID AT PORT CHALMERS.
Mr AI Dennid addressed a meeting of the electors of Port Chalmers at Orhkmoro’s Royal Assembly Rooms last evening. The Mayor occupied the chair. Air M‘Dennid stated in his address that he had called the meeting on his own account more to state his views than to ask for their suffrages, ai he considered Le knew more of tho wants of tho port than any other person, and since he bad been its . ln ie Provincial Council it had nourished. In alluding to the many benefits ho had conferred upon tho port ue stated that the now road, iVlacaudrew Terrace, which was now completed, would never have been made but for him. He denied that he was Air Macrndrew’s nominee, or that he knew anything of theanli-Centralist League. Une or two questions were put. One of them, in ic Terence to Macaudrcw Terrace, ho refused to answer. Air Miller proposed and Mr Haddock seconded a vote of thanks, which was carried.
