Bluff, December 20. The s s. ArawataleftSandri’go at 2.15 p.m on the 15th iust.. proceeded to Port Philbp Heads, and awaited the arrival of the P. and O. Co.’s s.s. Sumatra, already telegraphed off Cape Otway with the English mails. On the arrival of the above steamer at 7 p.m., transhipped mails and proceeded on her voyage, cleared the Heads at 8 p.m. ami passed Swan Island at 1 p.m on the following day, experienced light head winds and fine weather throughout the passage. Passed the Slanders at 4.37 p.m. arrived off the Bluff at 9.45 p.m. on the 19th, On leaving Sandridge the Arawata steamed the distance between the lights in Hobson’s Bay in one hour twenty-eight minutes, the quickest time on record She brings fifty-two saloon, and forty-five steerage p ifsenuers, and 375 tons of cargo for all ports. She sails for Dunedin at 1 a.m. Passengers for Dunedin Mrs Mrs Daye, Mi-8 Doag, Mr Kills and family (2), Mrs Grave and family (3), Rev. Mr and Mrs Ash and family (2), Mr and Mis R. N. Reid, Messrs Goilib.-and, John Doag. Turpin, II Keyncll, Godfrey, P. H. Kirby, Joseph Smith, James Mann, James Brown, Geo. (rDriscoll; twenty-five in the steerage, and 200 tons of cargo. ■ Christchurch, December 20. About ore o’clock on Sunday morning the house occupied by Henry Cutler, ou the Kicen ton road, two m I s from Chri- tehu-ch, was broken into, and L3GO stolen from it. Cutler was severely ill-treat- d until he became quiet. Cutler, who objected to bank Iris money, always kept large sums in the house, and this fact was well known in the district. There is no due to the tbiovis. The congregation of St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church htive resolved to ask the Rev. Mr Elmslie, of Wanganui, to become their partor, at a stipend of L7OO per annum.
