ELECTORAL NOTES.

Mr Macassey addressed a largo meeting at the Temperance Hall last night. At the conclusion of his speech, a report of which we shall find roOin for in our supplement on Saturday, a vote of confidence in the candidate was proposed by Mr Thomsen, and carried ntm. tW Mr J. P. Armstrong’s meeting at the Temperance Hall last night, following that of Mr Macassey, was presided over by Mr Carnck. The candidate quoted Mr Gladstone s speech in 1852 upon the constitution of a legislative Council for the Colony, and announced that, it returned, ho would support the policy of Sir George Grey. In an wer to questions, he said the State had no right to educate children. He was in favor ,of a Provincial Council or a Pro vlnci il State for each island, and of the representatives of that State electing a Senate to regulate the federal affairs of the Colony, such as Custom affairs, Post Office affairs, and other matters general to the Colony, the Senate to be presided over by the Governor. He was clearly of opinion that the Legislative Council should be done away witb,_ whether they were elective or nominee Ho would support a Government system'|,of inspection and a Government system of educating masters to educate the people, but he would not support State education. He was in favor of the State leasing land, and in favor of a progressive land tax. On the motion of Mr Walkhb a vote of confidence in Mr Armstrong was carried unanimously. MEETINGS. Mr J. P. Armstrong, i» the Mission House, Russell street, to-morrow evening, at 8 o’clock. Mr A. J. Burns, at Schoolroom, Nort -East Valley, to morrow, at 7.30. Meeting of supporters, Koslj n Hall, same hour. Mr H. S. Pish, at Drill-shed, Octagon, this evening, at 8. Mr Macassey, at the Mission House, Russell street, to-morrow evening, at 7.30, and afterwards Caledonian Hotel, at 8.30. Committee will meet at rooms, Jetty street, this evening, at 8.30.
