Tuesday, December 14, (Before Messrs E. ff Ward and J, Brown, Fsqs., J.P.'a.)

Vagrancy.—Ellen Crawley, charged with having no lawful meaus of support, was sent to gaol for one month.

Sabbath Descecratobs Mary M'Nauaht, Daniel M'Ponald, and Fanny Fulhame (for whom Mr Bathgate appeared) were charged with having, on December 5, conducted th*msselves in Cannongato street in a manner calculated to provoke a breach of the peace. The charge against Fulham failed, owing to want of sufficient evidence ; M 'Naught pleaded guilty, and M'Donald did not appear. Ful-

ham was discharged ; the other two were each fined 10s, in default three days' imprisonment. Mary M'Naught, on a further charge of using obscene language, was fiued 20a and costs. Alleged Sly Gnoa selling —William P. Woodiheld was charged by Reveuue-Ufficer Lumb with selling, on December 9, sixpennyworth of beer, he being a person not duly licensed. -Mr Brent defended.—The chief witnes«, Catherine Ryan, distinctly swore that it was cider and not beer that she had in the jug when she was met by Lumb, and that defendant gave it to her. The charge was accordingly dismissed —Thomas Carter, of. Walker street, was charged with stealing on December 4, sixpenny-worth of beer. This case also lapsed, Thomas Brown, tho main witness, Bwearing that he bought the beer in qestion at an hotel. The Bench, in stating that *hey had no sympathy with sly-grog sellers, strongly advised Lumb to employ proper men as informers, and not those who would tirn round on hiui.
