LOWERING DOWLING STREET.
To the Editor. Slß, The Corporation I believe is a body appointed bv the ratepayers to look after thtir interests in matters collected with city improvements, &c. I wonder now if any of the ' 'ouncil, in looking at York place and Bowling street cuttings, consider that part improved There stand the houses from ten to thirty feet in the air. I for one do not call that a city im Itrovcmont. If the Council want to cut such deep cuttings, let there be a Mill passed that owners of ground on either tide be ompelled fo sell to the Coiporatien at a fair pi ice, bo that the ground and house might be lowered also, theoarth so obtained c<u d be used for reclamation. It would pay the Council, and after this was done, resell to former owner if he. was williug to rebuy. Hearing that there are likely to be some deep hacking of the roads, I think the Government should look to it—l dare say that would ba the ca.=e if any of the cu'tings was likely to affect any member's properties. We want improvements, not disfigurements.— lam. &c., _ , Phcenjx, December 14.
