THE GREATEST PEDESTRIAN FEAT ON RECORD.
On September 20, at Lilliebridge grounds, the pedestrian Perkins accomplished the remarkable feat of walking eight miles within the hoar. He had previously tried the same performance, but gave up at the end of the sixth mile, baving taken 46rain 45secs, to accomplish that distance. He came to the start in perfect condition, and made the first mile in such quick time that his attendant could not keep pace with him. Before completing his third mile he looked slightly heated, but be soon recovered, and as he was backed to finish the four miles within twenty-nine minutes, he was doing his best. His backers had a close thing over this part of the match, as he only saved them byjone second, the time of the four miles (half the distance) being 28min 59aec. His fifth and sixth miles were done in slower time. The eight miles were done iu 55seos under the hour.
