The fortnightly meeting of the City Council was held to-day ; present—the Mayor and all the Councillors, except Cr. Leary, The Under- Secretary wrote, stating that the Govern mi nt were prepared to hand over LI,OOO to tho City Council on the Council submitting a phm for the proposed works, and provided that the Council spend a similar sum before the 31st March next.—The Matob mentioned that he had asked Mr Mi'rams to prepare plans and specifications for the necessary works, A letter from Mr J, H. Harris having been read, Or, Isaac moved that it be not received, as it had an insulting tone. Referred to the Works Committee.

The Matoe referring to the case of scarlet fever here previously reported upon by the Medical Officer mentioned that the disease had been confined to the house where it broke out. A request by the Fire Brigade to have the boundaries for their services defined, and a bell erected in South Ward was referred to the Fire Brigade Committee.

The Chairman of the Central Board of Health wrote that the Board had called the attention of the Government to the case of scarlet fever in Dunedin with the view of getting the co-operation in V matters of the Victorian Government. " Mayor stated that at the time he coni' xnunicated with the Superintendent, he was very anxious that an examination of Colonial vessels should take place heie, as it was known that scar'et fever was very prevalent in Melbourne. —• Mr Grant thought the Council should endorse his Worship’s action in the matter.
