THE CHORAL SOCIETY.
To the Editor. Sir,—Wonder is often expressed that in so large a place as Dunedin musical societies seem fated to languish (Jn Wednesday ovenmg, however, one very sufficient reason for such being the case was afforded. For over three quarters of an hour a. very full attendance ot performing members was kept waiting in the portico of the University Hall in the vain hope of gaining admission to the interior of the building for the postponed rehearsal ot the “May Queen.” At length those present di-persed, hut the sentiments expressed relative, to the delinquent on that oc. asiou would not have been very gratifying to his feelings had he heard them, Few persons, unfoi tunately. are sufficiently enthusiastic mus'cius to submit without a murmur to such discourteous treatment, and I consider that who, yer is responsible, for the due opening and lighting of the ball and fails so culpably in attending to these m tiers is, in fact, greatly responsible for the failure of the society should such failure eventuate. This cavalier conduct is equally unfair to Mr r.ovsey, who gives his valuable time gratuitously’; and to the members, many of Of'pecd cly the Lubes, attend ai t-ome personal inconvenience. bor th** well-being of the society, it is to be hoped that similar gross carelessness will not occur again —I am. &0., A Performing Member. Dunedin, December 3.
