ELECTORAL NOTES.
Mr Joseph Beswick, who again opposes the Hon. C, 0. Bowen for Jvaiapoi, addressed a large meeting of the electors at Kaiapoi last night. He said that although as string a believer as ever in Provincial institutions lie felt it must be accepted as a fact that notwithstanding the Abolition Bill had not yet become law, Provincialism, as they had known it, was dead. If returned he would endeavor to exercise his vote in such a direction as would give them as nearly as possible what they had lost, and what in his opinion had raised the country to its present state of prosperity, namely. Provincialism. A motion, “ That this meeting has every confidence in Mr Beswick, and pledges ii self to support him at the election,’’ was carried by acclamation without a dissentient voice. Mr R. L. Higgins, M.P.C., offers himself as a candidate for the Ashley district in opposition to Mr J. E. Brown. Our Oamaru correspondent mentions as an on flit there that the member for Wahabi is not likely to again woo the sweet voices of the electors or the district.
