SHOCKING OCCURRENCE AT NAPIER.

An inquest was held yesterday on the body of Ernest Augustus Webber, aged seventeen, son of Mr Charles Webber, Prorvincial Engineer, who met his death under melancholy circumstances, Deceased was a cadet and clerk >n ' the railway. A gun belonging to Mr Miller, the manager, was left loaded in the ticket office, and another cadet and Webber were playing with the gun. Deceased was showing how to fire it, and, neither knowing the gun was loaded, it went off and shot Webber dead on the spot. The jury returned a verdict of accidental death, adding a rider expressing regret at the culpable and prevalent practice of persons leaving loaded firearms in places accessible to others.
