Tho amount of revenue received at tho Custoiuiionse on srooils cleared for consumption this <lry w - 1329 15s 3d. A steady business has been transuded during tbe past week, without any material alteration in prices. There have been three arrivals, the Calypso, from London; the Lizzie Fox, from New York ; and the Trevelan Family, from China. The Chriatchurch portion of the cargo of sugar ex Lochiel, from Mauritius, was offered for sale at the- rooms of Messrs M'Landresa, Hepburn, and Co. on Thursday, when the trade manifested much indisposition to buy. Only one small sale of three tons was effected. Hennessy'e case brandy is a shade easier, and is offered at 325. Tho market is bare »f candles, which command IOJd to 10$ d. Oats continue depressed, and good sampleß are procurable at 2s to Si Id. Mr A. Mercer reports as follows for the week ending 13th November (retail prices only):—Fresh butter, in |lb and lib prints, Is 3d to Is 6d per lb ; fresh butter, in lumps, Is 2d; powdered and salt butter, Is 4d. The supply of fresh butter coming in is still increasing, and some are offering butter very low to got it disposed of. Salt butter, in keg, Is 2d per lb. Cheese of the" best quality is very scarce at Is 2d per lb. One or two samples of new cheese have come in, but too new to cut. Side and rolled bacon, Is Id to Is 2d; Colonial ham, Is 3d; English hams, Is 6d to Is 8d per lb. Eggs are still selling well at Is 6d per dozen. THE SHAKE MARKET. Mr T. H. M.r Skene reports that there is now a constant demand for ordinary laborers. Farm servants, ploughmen, and shepherds are very scarce. Town trades are getting more active. Female servants of experience can hardly be got. Store and office hands are more asked for. Sheep shearers are settling down to their work. Hotel business is slightly improved.
