ELECTORAL NOTES.
Sir Donald M‘Lean has issued an address to his constituency. His election is considered pretty certain. Ihe only contest expected will be for the other Napie seat. Mr Ormond is considered safe for Clive.
Mr Moorhouse was asked to stand for Akaioa and Lheviot, but declined. On ac* count of his action in reference to an Edu- ation Board for Canterbury, Sir J. C VVi.sou is very unpopular with the Heathcote electorate, and his de eat by Mr MoorhoUhe is considered certain.
As an instance of the excitement already felt in Christchurch in the approaching contest the Waitangi Tnbu ic’s ’correspondent mentions that for the first time in New Zealand an aspirant for poli'ical honor* has reiamed the professional services of a solicitor to conduct all matters connect d with his canvass and election. Mi- tv son, one of tiie six candidates lor the Cole-idge district, has retained the services of Mr \\ yn i W iiliams for t.hat purpose.
