The three-masted schooner Lochiel was towed to Dunedin this afternoon to discharge the remainder or her cargo of sugar. The s.b. Express returned from her Southern trip at 7 tins morning. She left luvercargill on Tuesday morning, called at the Bluff, and left the latter port for Port Chalmers at 4.30 p.m. Tho Union Co.'s s.s. Taupo arrived from the Northern Ports at 5 this morning. She left Onehunga wharf at 11.20 a.m. on the 2nd inst. • Wellington at 5.20 p.m. on the oth ; and Lyttefton at 1.15 p.m. on the Bth, with a furious S.W. gale. Was compelled to bear up for shelter at 0 p.m., under Long Look-out Point till the weather moderated, and proceeded on her votyago at 1 a.m. on the 9th with a strong southerly wind and heavy head sea until arrival. We thank Mr Newman for report and exchanges. The siiip Calypso, which was signalled ou Monday, is delayed outside the Heads |,y an accident to her windlass. Yesterday morning, when the tug Geelong was fast to her, and tho crew had hove the anckor short, some part of the windlass gave way and the chain paid out ngain with a rush. There being no chance yesterday of getting her anchor when the Geelong left the ship, it was arranged that, as soon as she was ready for towing, the usual signal would be hoisted. Early this morning the Geelong i>roeeeded outside, hut, owing to the strong S.W. breeze and heavy S.E. sea, the ship was unable to unmoor. The Geelong then ste.imed to the barque Pelham, and towed her up to he>anchorage.
The barque Pelhuni, with a full cargo of coal from Newcastle, was towed up this morning. Captain Moore imports leaving Newcastle ou the 30th ult Had southerly winds for the first two da) s, thou W. and strong S.W. winds with ruin and dirty weather, during which she shipped large quantities of water, and carried away a portion of her (starhoard bulwarks. Ou the sth iuat. she was hove-to for a few hours, when the gale inodsreted. Made Preservation Inlet on the morning of tho Sfch ; came through the Strait the same day, and arrived off the Heads this morning. Captain Moore reports the Brig Thomas and Henry leaving the same day for this port. SHIPPING TELEGRAM.
