GOVERNMENT NOTICES "STAMP ACT, 1.75." Bills of Liking and Receipts in lieu THEREOF. T is hereby notified, that, after the Ist of January next, the use of Impressed - ; tamps on Bills of fading is compxilsory. Such documents must, after that date, be written upon paper previously impressed at the Head Office, and cannot be stamped after the execution thereof. It is requested, therefore, that Merchants, Shipping " gents, and others concerned, will, without delay, forward to this office such forms as thev may require to be impressed, accompanied by the usual requisition aid receipt of the Bank of New Zealand for the amount, less the authorised discount. Information may be obtained at any Stamp Office, The provisions of the Act bearing on this point are as follows : " 47. Except where express provision is made to the contrary, all duties are to be denoted by impressed stamps only." '62. (1.) A Bill of Lading includes also any receipt given in lieu thereof from the master, mate, owner, or agent of any vessel, and is not to be stamped after the execution thereof. (2 ) Every person who makes or executes any Bill of Lading not duly scamped shaU.forfeit a Bum not exceeding L 50." SCHEDULE. Transfebs of Shares, T is hereby notified that, after the Ist of January next, the use of Impressed Stamps upon Transfers of Shares is compulsory, but transfers of shares may be stamped At a Stamp Office by the Commissioner or a Deputy Commissioner within one month after execution without a fine. Managers and Secretaries of Companies, Sharebrokers, and others interested, are rt commended to forward, without delay, such oims of transfer as they may 1 equii e to be impressed, accompanied by the usual requisition and receipt from the Bank of New Zealand for amount thereof, less the authoiised discount. Information may be obtained at any Stamp Office. 1 he provisions of the Act rtlatine hereto are as follow :—• "47. (1.) Except where txpreßS provision is made to the contrary, all dutieß are to he denoted by impressed stumps only." " 102. No transfer of any share or shares of or in the sto;k or funds of any corporation company, or society whatever in New Zealand shall be regis'ered, recorded, or entered in the bo»ks ot suoh corporation, company, or society unless Buch transfer is duly stamped. " 108. No instrument of sale or transfer of any share or shares shall be valid, either at law or in equity, unless the name of the purchaser or transferee is inserted therein at the time of or before the execution of the instrument of Bale or transfer ; and if any person executes a sale-note, transfer, contract-note, or other instrument of sale or transfer, in any manner or for any purpose whatsoever, unless the Dame of the purchaser is inserted therein at the time or before the execution thereof, he shall forfeit a sum of not less than L2O or more than LIOO ; and, if any such instrument is so mads or signed' it shall be wholly and absolutely void and inoperative, and shall in no case be made available by the insertion of a name or any other particulars afterwards; and the poison seliinr or transferring such share shall not bo diverted of his interest therein, but shall remain liable thereon as if he had never sold or dispos. d of the same. And if such person is a licensed aharebroker, Mb license shall, on any conviction under this section, be absolutely forfeited, and he shall not thereaft r be qualified to act as a broker, or to have a fresh lict n-e issued to him. "104.
