RAILWAY CONSTRUCTION.
The Lawrence and Tokomuiriio railway works are still progressing in a very satisfactory manner. Messrs Smyth aud Co. are pushing on ihe Manuka Creek tunnel at a wonderful rate, considering the nature or the country which they are passing through. The works from the tunnel down to Clarksville station are being gradually pushed on. and thr services of the platelayer** have been in r qtvsition for some weeks. The Round Rill tunnel, of which co much lias been said is being driven at tho rate of thirty fe*t pec week, despite the hoavy clip bearing on tho mouth, and which at one time was expected to stop .iie work altoi,vth: r. The evince, a \i<dod the ground l«st week, but what course they intend to follow in securing the tunnel w> hav.i 8s vit been unable to asoortain. By their orde.s the lining has been increased in sirongth by an extra ring, and the contractors arc now alnioßt at their wits' end to procure bricks fast enough t,> k«ep < he men going.
