Wellington, October 30. The New Zealand Cross has been awarded to Dr Featherston “on account of his meritorious and intrepid service during the campaign under Major-General Chute, C.8., on the West Coast of the .North Island, in 1805 60, and more particularly at the stunning and capture of the formidable ‘Ctapawa’ on the 13th January, 1866.” The ‘Post 1 says there is every probability that a higher grade than he now occupies in the Order of St, Michael and St. George will shortly be conferred upon the Agent-'-eneral, who will then be Sir Isaac Earl Feathers ton, K. C, M. G. JThe amount of Customs revenue collected at Wellington for October, 1875, is 1,13,688, showing an increase of L2.5G9 over the returns for the same month in 1874. November 1. It is stated that the Government have recently addressed the Secretary of State for the Colonics on the subject of stowage and shipment of gunpowder aboard vessels leaving London for the Colonies, particularly to New Zealand.

Lawrence, November 1. John Utting, a store-keeper at Switzers, was accidentally shot near his home on .Saturday, He died shortly afterwards. Kavunagh’s Manuka Hotel was burnt to the ground on Saturday evening. A man left in his bed-room a lighted candle, which is supposed to have ignited the drapery.
