In any case, however, the large number of nominations (fourty-four) for the principal race in the Colony is very gratifying. All the great stables are represented, and for quality and number of starters the field for the Dunedin Cup race of 1876 will probably far surpass those of previous years. In 1874 there were thirtynine entries and seven starters, and in 1875 thirty one entries and eight starters.

THE DUNEDIN" GUN CLUB. The opening match of this club was fired on Saturday afternoon, at a paddock at the Forbury, placed at the club’s disposal by Mr Edwards. The weather was rather unfavorable bo that the members did not muster very strongly ; but, as birds were scarce, it is just as ■well that the attendance was not large. Two sweepstakes were shot for, and the following were the results: -First five birds, 21 yards rise, 80 yards boundary : T.
