THE ST. PAUL’S MEMORIAL WINDOW.

The recovery of the art of staining glass, which, until about forty years back, was supposed lost, is beautifully illustrated by tbe east window at St. Paul’s Church, the gift of Dr Buchanan. The design is in perfect keeping with the Gothic architecture of the church. It is divisible into three sections, the upper apparently representing th® Father dispensing good to the universe. At His footstool are cherubims eoutiunous in their ascription of praise. In the centre is the crucifixion. The central figure is the Saviour dying on the Cross, and standing by are Mary His mother and Mary the wife of Cleophas. On either side are different figures—on th® ight hand apparently the Cemurion become eliever in Christ’s divinity, and in the 1 ttidude of devotion, and on the other, e think disciples hurrying to the tomb, •low is Christ the Conqueror, Two iniptions and a scroll illustrate the subjects. ; The words of th® first are “Jesus, that H® might sanctify the people with His blood, 1 1 suffered without the gate.” The second inscription is a memorial one; it reads—“To th® glory of God, and in memory of Arthur Yawdron Buchanan, born January 26, 1846; died March 28,1874.” The coloringis very judici omly managed: brilliant but not glaring, in strong but not startling, contrast, the eye|is relieved rather than fatigued by looking on it. The window, which Was designed and executed by Messrs Clayton and Bell, of Loudon, arrived by the Wave Queen.
