Lawrence, October 15. The railway works are now prog’ easing wry favorably between Lawrence and Milton, de.-srs Morrison and Nicoll have got well through the broken, ground at the commencement of tho Bound Hill Tunnel I, which re*
gambles that of the Chain Hills. Their difficulties Cave been immense, and timber considered strong enough to bear any weight has been snapped like a carrot. The entrance is now secured with solid masonry, and no further danger being anticipated the woiks will proceed rapidly ’The earthworks on this contract are ready for ballasting, which will bs commenced next week. Messrs Smyth's contract-is also progressing, tho Glniore tunnel being pierced two-thirds of the distance, or fourteen chains. There are no tidings of Duncan Campbell, and it is now considered certain that he is drowned. 12X> p.m. Information has just been received tint thsides of the Hound tliil tunnel are caving in, owing to a land slip Tho ‘ Star ’ now arrives in Lawrence on the same day as it is published.
