MELBOURNE BOYS’ TRADING BRIGADE.

To the Editor. Sir,-—As one of the five originators of the Melbourne Boys’ Trading Brigade, will you allow me to supplement the very excellent paragraph of your Melbourne correspondent on this subject by a remark or two; and, first, the Brigade had no further connection with the Young Men’s Christian Association than that at the outset a joint committee from its Youths’ Mission Committee and the Promotion of Morality Society were appointed to inaugu' rate the Brigade. Had it not been that we were most unfortunate in our first four superintendents, the committee worn! probably have been able to tell a different story to dav, and though at last a superintendent was secured, whosa heart aadsoul was in the work, it was too late. Slowly and reluctantly were we being convinced that the society would i ave to be wound up, but oa its ashes some of us hop, d to see raised up a rough house, where the boys removed from the haunts of vice may learn what will make men—and Christian men -of them. Those of your readers who are familiar with th- life and work of men ;ike Mua ler, Falk, Wiuheru, Fkidnei, Fercaiozz'., and, late, .iiiil, in- Bernardo, w ill hope to see such an in-titu-tiou raised up iu a i ity where -.hen is so much evil to i.e grappled with. Nor has the Bii »Ge been altogether unsuccessful. I have stun the lads dressed iu their uniform, setting an’ example to all around of order and quiet at a youths’ service, where all the rest o;. the children were very Disorderly, and at a concert one evunimr, where the behaviour of the larrikin* was disgraceful, thme lads were remarkable for their order and attention, and now in the late home a service on Sabbath evenings is being_ conducted, which is already bearing good fruit, being appreciated by the lads of the district.—l am, .sc., _ .
