BY ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH.
Auckland, October 12. The Magellan Cloud has been fitted out for a twelve months’cruise by the local Whaling Association and sailed to-day for the coast and as far as the Chatham Islands. (From our own Correspondent.) Eivebton, October 13. Two of the men connected with the late fracas on the railway works were brought before the Court yesterday, charged with assaulting and obstructing Brodrick in carrying out work for the Provincial Government. After evidence had been heard, which proved that the assault was nothing more than the men pushing each other about, the magistrate dismissed both cases, and gave an order that Brodrick should remove from the ground, and cease interfering with Proudfoot’s carrying out the contract. He ruled that, as the contract time had not expired, and the works were in possession of the contractor, the Government had no right to interfere. Eight other chargee against Prcudfoot’a men, and several counter charges against Brodrick and his men, all resting on the first two cases, were withdrawn.
