PROPOSED MUNICIPALITY ON THE FLAT.
A deputation, consisting of Messrs Moloney, I homas, Wybar, a»id Rankin, waited on Deputy-Superintendent this morning, i wished the districts of Forbuiy, fc'orbury Extension, South Dunedin, and South Dunedin Extension formed into a municipality. His Honor said ' hat before he could grant the request it must bo quite clear that there was a majority in favor of the step. Moloney then produced a petition nearly 20ft. long and signed by over 200 householders, out of 300 residents. • ‘is Honor said that, in the face of a majority of nearly two-thirds, there was no altei native but to proclaim the amtrict a municipality at once. \Vybar expldned that Musselburgh and St. Kilda could not now be prevailed on ta join in with the other distdets on account 01 alittle ill feeling. No doubt, however, they would be prevailed to join in in time.
Messrs Paxton, Hallagan, Brady, and Eager waited on bis Honor immediately afterwards to obtain a reply to the request by a former deputation who presented a petition asking that the districts of St. Kilda and Musselburgh be ormed into a separate municipality. His Honor promised to place the matter, together with tlie application by the deputation from today 7 ’ * Jel ° re Executive at their meeting I he Executive met at noon, and considered the above matters. It was resolved to obtain the opinion of the Provincial Solicitor, the Government' having no ohj-ction to cither anplication, if everything was in legal form.
