A man named Ryan has been apprehended on a charge of uttering a forged cheque for L4l, signed Douglas and Go, He presented it for payment of board and lodging, and the landlord ga- eh m credit for the amount, and let him have LI on account, ibe cheque proved to be worthless. No such firm as Douglas and < 'o. was known, Hynn could not bo found out. The police yesterday arrested him at Colne. The charge of forgery could not be sustained, so prisoner will be dealt with summarily for obtaining LI on false pretences. Elii ff, October 7. The s.s Alhambra arrived from Melbourne at 11.43 this morning. 8-ho left Me bourne at 2 15 p m. on the 2nd, and brings thirty-eight saloon and thirty steerage passengers and MOO tons of cargo for all ports.
