To the Editor. Sir, Seeing that the “ spelling bee” in aid of tho Dunedin Cricket Club was attended with such great success, I would suggest that an examination in mental arithmetic be held on a like principle, in aid of our local charities. Wherever such examinations have been held (noticeably at the annual school examinations) they have proved a source of much amusement, and no doubt, if the hint is acted upon, as many candidates would enter as for the “ bee.” —I am, &c., A.
